Horror and retro gaming enthusiasts can score a great deal on RetroRealms Arcade Double Feature at Amazon. The recently released collection developed by WayForward adapts the two iconic horror franchises into retro-infused action-platformers with 16-bit graphics: Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead. The standard edition is on sale for $30 (was $50) for Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and Xbox. Meanwhile, the Special Edition is discounted to $70 (was $80) for Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox. Some of these deals are available at Walmart, Best Buy, and Target, but Amazon is the only retailer with both editions on all platforms. The PS5 Special Edition, for instance, is sold out everywhere except Amazon.
The Special Edition comes with a Michael Myers plush doll, a collectible VHS-inspired box, a poster, trading cards, and two DLC characters with unique play styles and stories. The standard edition comes with the trading cards. The “Day One” version of the standard included the DLC until November 17 for digital and physical editions. It’s possible you might still get the DLC with the physical edition, but it’s not guaranteed.
Outside of the Special Edition (or if you get lucky), the two playable characters cost $5 each: Laurie Strobe, lead protagonist of the Halloween films, and Kelly Maxwell from the Starz TV series Ash vs Evil Dead. Laurie has a different move set and storyline than Michael Myers. The same goes for Kelly Maxwell and Ash Williams.
RetroRealms has flown under the radar, but if you like retro-style games with pixelated graphics and horror movies, it’s certainly worth checking out. It earned an 8/10 in our RetroRealms Arcade review thanks to its well-designed platforming sequences, tight controls, and superb 16-bit graphics and animations. The two launch games, Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead, make great use of the characters and worlds from the iconic franchises, and cross-over potential of RetroRealms feels like the beginning of a fun horror multiverse. Each game is played by approaching its arcade cabinet in the 3D hub world. More games will be added as paid DLC; it’s still early days, but RetroRealms Arcade is off to an awesome start as an ode to horror movies and retro games.

RetroRealms Double Feature Special Edition includes both of WayForward’s new horror-platformer games: Halloween and Ash vs Evil Dead loaded on one disc or cartridge. Laurie Strobe and Kelly Maxwell alternate characters are DLC, so you will need to redeem the provided codes to unlock both.
Here’s everything you get with the RetroRealms Special Edition:
- Michael Myers 8″ Plush
- 11″ x 17″ RetroRealms Halloween Poster
- VHS-inspired Collectible Box
- Halloween Trading Card Pack (8 Cards)
- Laurie Strobe and Kelly Maxwell Playable Characters (DLC)
- Disc or Cartridge with two RetroRealms Arcade games: Halloween & Ash vs Evil Dead
RetroRealms Special Edition is only available on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox. The Xbox disc has Smart Delivery, so it unlocks Xbox Series X and Xbox One versions of both games.
Remaining stock is limited, and the Special Edition is sold out at some retailers for certain platforms. Best Buy, for instance, no longer carries the Special Edition, which is a sign that once other retailers sell out, it’ll be gone for good.
It’s available for all three platforms at Amazon and for select platforms at Walmart and Target. Amazon is the only retailer with the PS5 edition in stock. All retailers will deliver the game in time for Christmas.

We’re optimistic about the future of this expanding horror arcade/museum, and it helps that the game studio behind it, WayForward, has a proven track record of making memorable games across a wide variety of genres, namely in side-scrolling action-platformers. WayForward is best known for its long-running Shantae series, but it also has an expansive list of licensed games and continuations/revivals of dormant franchises: River City Girls, Yars Rising, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, and The Mummy Demastered, to name a few.
Boss Team Games, the publisher of RetroRealms Arcade, also published the 2022 Evil Dead multiplayer game. The studio is also working on a bigger budget Halloween game, and John Carpenter, the legendary director and composer of the original film, is collaborating on the project.
