Path Of Exile 2: How To Raise Support Gem Capacity

As you unlock new skills and equip Skill Gems for them in Path of Exile 2, you can also socket in Support Gems. Every Skill Gem can be equipped with two or three Support Gems in the early access build, depending on the skill. However, by default, most Skill Gems only have the capacity for two Support Gem sockets. This has made players wonder what they need to do to boost this number so they can equip more Support Gems. We’ll tell you exactly how to do that in Path of Exile 2 in the guide below.

How to increase Support Gem capacity in Path of Exile 2

The short answer to equipping more Support Gems is to use a Jeweler’s Orb on the Skill Gem you want more sockets for. A Jeweler’s Orb grants a Skill Gem one additional Support Gem socket, which makes most Skill Gems go from two to three sockets.

Support Gem sockets are capped at two by default.

Jeweler’s Orbs work the same as any other orb in Path of Exile 2. Once it’s used, the consumable disappears and you can’t use it again. You need to find more and more Jeweler’s Orbs to equip additional Skill Gems with more Support Gem sockets. Of course, this is far easier said than done, as Jeweler’s Orbs are one of the rarest drops in Path of Exile 2.

How to get Jeweler’s Orbs in Path of Exile 2

If you’re wondering why you haven’t found a single Jeweler’s Orb yet, it’s likely because you haven’t made it to Act 3. These rare orbs only start dropping once Act 3 has begun, and even then, they tend to be uncommon. You’ll have a better chance to find a Jeweler’s Orb if you take your character all the way to Cruel difficulty in Act 3, which is required to participate in the endgame of Path of Exile 2.

Jeweler’s Orb can be dropped by common enemies, chests, and bosses. As you might expect, tougher story bosses have the best chance to drop Jeweler’s Orbs, but you could get lucky and find one from a single enemy in a random Act 3 zone.

Currently, the only type of Jeweler’s Orb you can acquire in Path of Exile 2 is the “Lesser” variant. This allows you to add a single Support Gem socket on a Skill Gem. In the future, “Greater,” “Grand,” and other variants will likely be added to Path of Exile 2 to allow you to unlock even more Support Gem sockets. This is why there are up to six Support Gem sockets under each Skill Gem in the skills panel menu.

For now, though, you can only increase the Support Gem capacity of a Skill Gem by one. If you manage to find a Lesser Jeweler’s Orb to do so, count yourself lucky, as many players haven’t seen one in dozens of hours of gameplay up to this point.
