A new Stalker 2 update is out now, and according to the patch notes, it prevents prevents game crashes, shader compilation issues, and memory leaks. Developer GSC Game World claims the patch fixes the most critical problems based on player feedback.

In brief, the patch stops freezes and crashes related to shader compilation issues. It fixes a memory leak problem in the Rostok location, prevents save loss on Xbox, and corrects UI animations that caused other crashes. Additionally, saves with long playtimes will no longer have performance drops when players aim and fire weapons.

GSC Game World stated that the shader compilation crashes were the hardest problem to solve. It is encouraging players to reach out via its help page if they continue to run into shader compilation issues (or any other glitches). The developer also emphasized that another major update is on the way soon.

Much like its predecessor, Stalker 2 launched with a variety of bugs, glitches, and performance issues. However, the developers did not want to further delay the game, first announced 12 years ago. Stalker 2’s first major patch fixed over 1,800 bugs and included a revamp of its NPC AI system. The game, which has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance to the Russian invasion, crashed the Ukrainian internet upon launch. Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is available on Xbox Series X and PC; you can also play it through Game Pass. It was one of GameSpot’s picks for the top ten games of the year.
