Housemarque recently teamed up with Dark Horse on a pair of books about Returnal, the 2021 roguelike shooter that became one of the PS5’s earliest hits. Returnal fans can now save big on one of those books at Amazon. The Art of Returnal is on sale for only $34 at Amazon for a limited time. This hardcover book was published in December and normally carries a $50 price tag.
Returnal is a terrific roguelike shooter built around challenging, fast-paced combat scenarios, which means stopping to admire the intricately designed world isn’t always an option. If you want to spend time in the world crafted by Housemarque at a more leisurely pace, The Art of Returnal is worth checking out.

Inside, you’ll find 208 pages detailing the making of Returnal. From character designs of astronaut Selene Vassos to a closer look at the gruesome creatures hunting her after she becomes stranded on a hostile alien planet, this big coffee table book aims to offer a well-rounded look at the world of Returnal. You can also explore how the volatile biomes were created and read through commentary from the game’s creative team to gain further insight into the making of this award-winning game.
Returnal: Fallen Asteria, the other new book about the game Dark Horse published in December, is a graphic novel adaptation based on the premise of the game. Created by Housemarque’s narrative and design teams, Fallen Asteria can be viewed as an artistic primer of the world. This 88-page paperback is light on words but packed with evocative black-and-white illustrations by artists Igor Lomov and Aaron Jarvinen. Returnal: Fallen Asteria isn’t discounted yet, but you can add it to your shelf for $20.
If you haven’t played it yet or want to gift it to a friend, physical copies of Returnal for PS5 are available for $36 at Amazon. In 2023, Returnal received a great PC port that retains the immersive haptic feedback and audio features when played with a DualSense Controller.
