The developer of Black Myth: Wukong has said that the reason for the delay of its Xbox port is due to the Series S due to the Series S’s memory being a bottleneck.

Over on Weibo, a Chinese social media app, GameScience CEO Feng Ji said that the Xbox Series S’s 10GB of shared memory is a problem and has caused optimization issues. Last year, Microsoft stated that the game’s delay was not due to Xbox hardware limitations, but the Series S has run into this problem before.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was the biggest example of this, as it was released late for Xbox in 2023 as a result of technical issues related to the Series S version. Black Myth: Wukong was also reportedly a console exclusive for PlayStation 5, although neither Game Science nor Sony ever confirmed it.

Black Myth Wukong was a nominee for the coveted Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2024. While it didn’t win that particular category, it did win Best Action Game. It also managed to snag its own Game of the Year win at The Steam Awards 2024.

So far, Black Myth: Wukong has sold 18 million copies and an expansion is on the way. It also recently received a huge update last month adding new equipment and quality-of-life features. The game is available on PC and PS5, but it’s still unclear when the Xbox version will come out.
