Nintendo’s next console, the apparent Switch 2, is the talk of the town in Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show this week due in part to the peripheral company Genki claiming to know what Nintendo is cooking up. Now, for the first time, Nintendo has broken its silence and commented on the leaks.

A spokesperson told Japanese newspaper The Sankei Shimbun (translated by Automaton) that the images and videos from CES are “not official.” A spokesperson told CNET Japan (translated by Automaton), “The gaming hardware that Genki claims to be Nintendo hardware at CES is official and was not provided to the company by Nintendo.”

At CES, Genki created a mockup of the Switch 2 that it claimed was based on a real Switch 2 console that it saw, going on to say the company was surprised by the media attention. Later, however, Genki told Game Spark that its mockup was in fact based only on leaks, not from seeing the system first hand, and that it doesn’t actually know what Nintendo is planning.

Genki also said at CES that it expects the Switch 2 to launch in April 2025. In addition to the leaks that stem from Genki, other reports claim to reveal the first details on the Switch 2’s new Joy-Cons, which could include a new feature and a more ergonomic design.

Nintendo has confirmed it will announce its next console by the end of March 2025, so a reveal could happen very soon. Many are expecting the console to then launch later in the year.

The Switch 2, or whatever the system may be called, has enormous shoes to fill, as the original Switch sold more than 146 million systems and 1.3 billion games.
