Remedy Entertainment hasn’t made a secret of the fact that the worlds of Alan Wake and Control are part of a shared universe. Now, the Remedy Connected Universe is coming even deeper into focus as Alan Wake 2’s new DLC, The Lake House, crosses directly into the aftermath of the events of the first Control while teasing Control 2.
There are spoilers ahead for Alan Wake 2: The Lake House. So stop reading now if you haven’t played it or don’t want to know what happens.
The Lake House puts players in the role of Agent Kiran Estevez, a member of the Federal Bureau of Control. At one point in the story, Kiran finds herself transported to the Oldest House, the former headquarters of the FBC and the location where the original Control took place. Kiran also encounters Dylan Faden, the brother of Control’s leading heroine, Jesse Faden, as he shares some cryptic info about what happened to the FBC.
Dylan even briefly mentions Jesse by name before an assortment of locations are seen and Kiran is thrust back out of the Oldest House. One of the new pieces of intel that comes out of this teaser is that it’s been four years since anyone heard anything from the Oldest House. It also raises another question about where Jesse has been since the events of Control.
This isn’t the first callback or crossover between the two game series. Control’s AWE DLC directly addressed Alan Wake’s story and temporarily brought Jesse in contact with Alan through a series of visions.
Control 2 doesn’t currently have a release date, but Remedy recently announced a deal with Annapurna Pictures to co-produce the game, and extend the reach of Alan Wake and Control to potential TV and film adaptations.
